Which ThinkPad?
Most ThinkPads have the CD drive in an "Ultrabay" holder,
which is easy to remove.
I'm sure you could get a CD drive for a ThinkPad cheaply on eBay.
There's a shop on South Circular Road in Dublin that specialises
in second-hand ThinkPads, and seems quite cheap.
I'm sure they would have plenty of CD drives from dead ThinkPads.
