I have a server w.x.y.z running an snmpd which claims it is being
queried by another server (claims == Connection from TCP: [a.b.c.d]
in net-snmpd.log) . Now, a.b.c.d should not be making snmp
connections to w.x.y.z so to check, I ran tcpdump on a.b.c.d and sure
enough, there it is making connections to w.x.y.z - but I still have
no idea what process is making these spurious connections.
So the question now is how do I found out what process is doing this?
tcpdump will tell me the source port of the packets, but that's
fairly transient? Is there some way of persuading tcpdump to tell me
the pid of the process sending the packets? Thinking about the
operation of tcpdump, I can't see how there would be, but I live in
hope that one of you geniuses will have an answer for me ;-)
