It is very curious, because really the particular loop of getpwent ;
getpwnam can't be that uncommon - it's odd that the bug is so widely
spread.

Yeah, the workaround looks fine - just silly to have to do it. I'm
now curious as to whether the bug is perl or libc related, and if
Father Time arrives and hands me a big extra chunk, I might even
investigate further.
