3.5 works remarkably well on hardy, no complaint here. 4.0 is somewhat
usable but not for office use, I did try as well. You can find all the

Now as you know KDE 4.0.x was released as a major revamp and the
concept was to get all the back end tech together so next versions
will be able to use the new nifty code. 4.0 delivered a limited but
still nice experience. Good news is 4.1 alpha1 has been released and
it contains already some nice improvements like : QT 4.4 and faster
rendering. I know it is slightly  off-topic but still worth
mentioning.
