Try this:
import Tkinter,tkFileDialog
dialog = Tkinter.Tk()
file = tkFileDialog.askopenfile(parent=root,mode='rb',title='Choose a file')
if file != None:
data = file.read()
file.close()
Data should be stored in "Data".
Let me know if that works.
