Well I can't claim to know a lot about this - I'm a lowly web developer so I
tried everything you both suggested. First cat /dev/urandom > /dev/dsp and
got white noise which I guess at least means that nothing else is grabbing
/dev/dsp. I had read anyway that when that happens you see the error when
you run rdesktop. I then tried modprobing the modules suggested, got no
errors and tried rdesktop without sending it through aoss and still no
sound. Though Vista says it is playing back the sound through RDP I am
wondering now if it really is. I need to use TS from another machine to
check if the sound gets sent to that but don't have access to one for the
time being. All other sound functions on the Acer are working fine, even
Skype which I believe uses OSS.
Happy to try any other suggestions anyone has.
