There are USB-> Serial adaptors available, but it's pretty unlikely
that these would work at boot time - so they'd be of limited use trying
to extract information for your purposes I think.
Any chance there's a docking station for the laptop or some hidden
serial port on it somewhere?
Alternatively, it's possible to output debugging information over the
network port, to a remote server - depending on how far into the kernel
it boots, of course.
