I've no comment on the actual laptop model one way or the other, but I
recently bought an EEE PC from Laptops Direct and their customer
support, contactability and general attitude was appalling : easily the
worst I've had to deal with in 15 years in the industry.

I bought two EEE PCs on 5th June, one was delivered with a damaged LCD
(entire dead line of pixels out of the box). They were notified of the
damage within 3 hours of the delivery, and I finally got the refund from
them over 3 *months* later, on 12th September (last Friday).

Their phone support just tells you to use their web-based support
system, but no-one ever actually answers the above. When you do finally
get through to their premium-rate UK phone support line, you will be
greeted by a cheery support person who will assure you that there is no
problem and that your request will be handled immediately. After that,
you will hear *nothing*, and when you finally give up and go through the
routine of trying to contact them again, you will find that there is no
record at all in their systems of your previous call and/or request. We
tried to schedule a return on three or four occasions, and their courier
simply never turned up to collect.

The above is obviously my *personal* experience, but you can also read
boards.ie for other people's personal versions, and I cannot
un-recommend them enough.

Regards,

Vin
