I'm not sure if this is relevent to the vodafone modem, but with RTG, and
Vodafone passport, you get the same data rates as at home.
Personally in Spain, if he's going to an urban area, I wouldn't bother. I'd
just find someone who didn't mind me sharing their wireless ( ie left their
wireless router in the default telefonica configuration with is unencrypted
