Hi Gerard,
There is a long tradition on the #linux IRC channel of talking about anything
but Linux. Perhaps because of this, there is an equally long tradition of
mocking anyone who cannot prove the relevance of their question to Linux on
the mailing list. In all seriousness, there is some importance to having
relevance to Linux in mailing list mails, since they are archived for a long
time and have become a valuable resource for solving Linux related problems.
In your case, I think had you asked a question about Linux and VPN
connectivity using it, instead of asking for contact information for HEAnet
directly, the list might have understood the method behind your question. It's
just unfortunate that some list members chose to respond negatively before
researching the background to your query.
Still, it's a great mailing list, with (mostly? ;-) ) very nice members, and
I hope the good natured banter will not discourage you from posting here again
in the future.
Best regards,
