Thanks for the pointers and advice. I keep a little log of my findings,
so far it seems that for development and personal use I go for something
python-fuse based, while for production I would either use samba audit
vfs or go for inotify. In the long run fsnotify would be great, but I
did not see an easy way (== python) to use it (yet).
