I doubt the speed of the USB bus would be the bottleneck when writing
a DVD. The fastest internal drive I could find on NewEgg only writes
at 22X (the fastest external is 20X for some flavours of DVD media),
which, according to Wikipedia,[1] would be about 29 MB/s. This is
about half of the maximum speed of USB 2.0, which is 480 Mbit/s[2], or
60 MB/s.
