Apologies for asking this 3 times.
I just acquired a new Thinkpad T43 (possibly the best laptop ever),
and KMail told me my mail had not been sent,
because I had not entered my email address in the KMail Settings.
Evidently it kept the mail somewhere safe
and sent it out once I had entered my address.
