I've got an aging cisco 3640 that needs replacing. I'm thinking about
something like the Dell R200 (1u, ~50cm deep) running Linux, quagga and
a few other apps (such as a reverse web proxy like pound).
I'll need a multiport ethernet card. To make things interesting, I'm
looking for an integrated switch rather than a simple 4 port ethernet card
(ie have the PCI card do switching rather than Linux do bridging).
Gigabit ports would be ideal, but I'd settle for fast ethernet to keep the
cost down.
I've found the following two options:
HP NC150T (PCIe with 4 external, 1 internal GigE)
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/networking/nc150t/benefits.html
DSS Networks 6468 (PCIe with 4 external, 4 internal GigE)
http://www.dssnetworks.com/v3/gigabit_pcie_6468.asp
The former appears to be about USD200. I can't find pricing for the
latter.
Is anybody familiar with any other possibilities? Or can anyone recomond
a sub EUR 500 1u box with a 4 port switch that would do in place of the
Dell R200?
