[ILUG] Routing problem

[ILUG] Routing problem

Kevin Philp lists at cybercolloids.net

I am using Debian Lenny on the server (machine with the wireless
problem), its a old machine (AMD K6-III running at about 400MHz if I
remember correctly) and it runs the 2.6.26-1-486 kernel which is the
standard Lenny kernel for this architecture.

The wireless card is an Edimax EW-7128g which according to lspci is:

00:12.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2500 802.11g Cardbus/mini-PCI (rev 01)
        Subsystem: RaLink Device 2560
        Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV+ VGASnoop-
ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx-
        Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=slow >TAbort-
<TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- INTx-
Latency: 32, Cache Line Size: 32 bytes
Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 10
        Region 0: Memory at e6000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=8K]
Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 2
                Flags: PMEClk- DSI- D1- D2- AuxCurrent=0mA
PME(D0-,D1-,D2-,D3hot-,D3cold-)
                Status: D0 PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=0 PME-
        Kernel driver in use: rt2500pci
        Kernel modules: rt2500pci

I have just logged into the server (via ssh from work over using the
duff wireless connection) and I see it has dropped back to 1M again -
actually on testing its much lower than 1M.

wlan0 IEEE 802.11 ESSID:"WhiteCat"
          Mode:Managed Frequency:2.462 GHz Access Point:
00:0F:CC:25:8C:E8
          Bit Rate=1 Mb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm
          Retry min limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr=2352 B
          Encryption key: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX [2]
          Link Quality=19/100 Signal level=-60 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

I might try the older rt2500 module instead of the rt2500pci - see if
that makes difference.
