I've been trying to set up a football (soccer) match between the
Dublin Amazon and Google offices. As I was practising my spot kicks
today, the following thought occurred to me: why not make an afternoon
of it and organise a tournament for all Dublin geeks? Teams could be
organised by company or by any other convenient grouping, e.g.
Amazon FC (we fulfill more than orders!)
Blacknight Hat Trick Solutions
BSD Daemon Drive
Google Footballplex
Emacs (vi sucks!)
IBM Foot of Blue
Linux Penguin Power
Microsoft Football Explorer 2009
Vi (Emacs blows!)
Windows Blue Goal of Death
The primary goals of the tournament will be fun and of course, proof
of ultimate Dublin supremacy for the winning company / Open Source
project / Operating System / roving group of geeks. Towards these dual
ends, I was thinking of hosting the tournament at Herbert Park, which
has a futsal court or two, big grass fields that are off-limit to dogs
that we could transform into several football pitches, a playground
where child processes can be backgrounded, and convenient access from
the DART / Dublin bus, and plenty of parking (which is free on
Sundays!).
If you are interested, please reply to me off-list. If there is enough
interest, I'll set up a mailing list just for the tournament and we'll
see what we can put together.
