[ILUG] Talk on legal issues of OSS

[ILUG] Talk on legal issues of OSS

Gerard Hooton g.hooton at ucc.ie
Wed May 13 09:36:26 IST 2009

If anyone from this group gets to go to this lecture I would strongly
suggest that they take up the issue of software patents.
Software patents are the enemy of OOS and Linux and should be apposed at
every opportunity. Software patents are a barrier to a free market in
information technology. Each software patent claims to "own" areas of
the software market. Software patents are inherently unsafe,
unnecessary. The global patent industry seeks these for the sake of
profit, not innovation.

I would like to know how the Irish Software Association are advising
European Members of Parliament on the EU Software Patent Directives
given that it's the Commission who are pushing for software
patents.
