Without recommending any model or OS, I reckon the optimal balance between
usability and portability is a 9" screen. I use a 7" screen on my eeePC and
find it a little on the small side for 'real work.' However, the portability
of the device is second to none. Having used the 9" screen version, this is
the same form factor (sos equally portable) but with a vast improvement in
screen real-estate (in practice.)
Typically the 10" models seem to have a slightly larger form factor.
