[ILUG] Diagnose Hardrive Problem

[ILUG] Diagnose Hardrive Problem

Hi,

I'm trying to diagnose a problem I'm having with my old hard drive - 500GB
Western Digital. Bought it in 2007 and it was working fine up until two
months ago. It now turns on and isn't recognised by the computer. There
could also be a power problem as it tends to turn off when its moved.

So I opened it up today and I can't see anything obviously wrong with it but
that's because I don't really know what to look for! Can anyone recommend
any trouble shooting techniques?

It has a sata power connection, a serial data connection and a connection
labeled as "Factory Jumper Settings". So where do I go from here?

Thanks
---
Conor
