You don't HAVE to crash - it is possible to drive carefully, a fact which seemed to escape the number of people, including a coach driver, who overtook me on a nearly empty N4 last night.
However, driving to a LEWD certainly doesn't come under the heading of "necessary journey" so cancellation is I'm sure the most prudent course.
