[ILUG] 64 bit linux / old hardware

I have a new computer running 64bit linux (Ubuntu 9.10), on which
everything works fine except for a printer (HP Photosmart 7960). Any
attempt to print results in an error message, usually that the device is
not attached, and sometimes an offert to troubleshoot. The
troubleshooting wizard is no help though, it generally just spins its
wheels for hours without any suggestions.

I did some googling, and as a result made sure the latest version of
hplip is installed, but that's the extent of my skills n this.

Any suggestions for what to try next, or are there any logs I can look
to post here to help track down the problem?
