I wouldn't recommend starting with strace, pretty much for the reasons
you stated, but if you start the game normally, then when it freezes,
run strace, and attach to the process.
By that I mean, use ps -ef to find the pid ( ps -ef | grep crack-attack )
strace -p $PID
