You may have sorted this already. If you haven't, one thing I'd suggest is
removing any files owned by that user in /tmp - sockets, pipes, that kind
of thing. Also, ensure that any processes owned by that user are also
killed - dbus, that kind of thing.
Then try to re-log them in...
