I can if I have to. I'm trying to avoid hacks, though, as I don't want 
the system to get too out-of-whack with the expected configurations 
vis-a-vis updates.

To the list: There are two things I forgot to mention:
* It's Debian Squeeze.
* I can't see anything obvious on the Debian.org web site
