[ILUG] Re: Pitching Open Source Software to school kids

[ILUG] Re: Pitching Open Source Software to school kids

One issue which it might be useful to take into account is what they're
being told by their teachers. It seems many of them (the teachers) have
been well-indoctrinated to believe that free software is evil. I was
talking to a clueless teacher recently who was genuinely shocked to hear
that I use freely-available software produced by volunteers. She had
been on a Microsoft "course".

In other areas kids are rightly being told that volunteering and sharing
are good things, but not when it comes to computer software, it seems.

Tony.
