I think it's just a good, free, video codec. Microsoft, Flash, Apple etc.

H264 is a timebomb .. you can use it patent-licence free, until 2012. Then
they'll see..or do a Fraunhofer on you. That said, I'm sure now that it's
open sourced (with a half-assed spec, that really needs work), all the
patent lawyers will start to compare it to their portfolios....
