Thanks for the replies.
I've gone down an alternative route, as I only needed to send alerts
to my own phone.
I noticed that twitter supplied free notifications over SMS to the o2 network.
So I setup two twitter accounts lets call them gateway and alert.
I setup standard smtp alerts on the logger to go back to a local mail
server where procmail takes the message logins into the twitter
gateway account and DMs the message to the alert account twitter then
passes the DM onto my phone :)
Its a bit wacky and limits the messages to 140 characters but hey it works.
