1.25g sounds like plenty for any gui you like, otoh where ram or thrashing
is an issue, xubuntu no longer represents any savings over gnome.  lubuntu
takes over this role nicely.  lubuntu was launched by ubuntu yet awaits
entry into the ubuntu family while ubuntu pores over what to require of new
entrants.  meanwhile it just works (i'm running lucid).  fresh install is
probably easiest.  or if you already have ubuntu installed, grab the ppa and
apt-get lubuntu-desktop, tho if you do that you'll still have
NetworkManager.  wicd is really quite better.  apt-get remove
NetworkManager, apt-get install wicd.  worth doing regardless of
k/x/l/ubuntu.
