[ILUG] Canvassing and politicians

Not to hijack your thread re politicians canvasing Kevin but that reminds me ...

I was at an Enterprise Ireland conference, last week, on "Open Source
in Business" .  Two of the speakers were Council/City IT managers and
they announced that "Ireland" had terminated their Enterprise
licensing agreements with Microsoft!  Which was a surprise to me.

One of their main issues was the whole software asset (license)
management... they claimed they had whole teams of people whose only
job was to manage this and it had become way too complex.  While, they
were not saying they would only buy open source, it had moved up their
list and they recognised the huge benefit having source code and an
open marketplace of people that could understand & modified it was.

I found it very promising, but I guess the proof is in the pudding.
