I've been ranting about this for ever, so here we go again. ALL RAID is software - the only question is where the software runs - on the host's CPU or on a CPU (possibly helped by an ASIC) on a dedicated controller card. And as somebody in ILUG once said to me - which are you going to trust more, the closed source software made by a small team at one company, or the open source software made by the cast of thousands which is the Linux kernel developers ?
And that's before you even go near the question of the dedicated card becoming obsolete, as previously mentioned.
