For those who like a bit of nostalgia, I dug out an old slackware
(kernel 2.0) virtual machine (qemu/kvm) that I put together a while a
go.
NOTE: THIS IS A TOTALLY OUT OF DATE AND HENCE INSECURE SYSTEM!!! USE
FOR NOSTALGIA PURPOSES ONLY! :)
Link:
http://eleceng.dit.ie/frank/slackware34.tar.gz (120MB)
requirements: qemu
Notes for those who have never used a command line login:
Untar (it puts everything in a directory called oldslack - go there)
run start.sh to start the system
login as root (no password)
Text login initially
type 'startx' to run X
The window manager is fvwm95
click left mouse button on desktop background for menu.
Netscape is there and is usable (though presumably full of security holes)
To shut down cleanly, exit X and type
shutdown -h now
/etc/resolv.conf has google's dns 8.8.8.8 hard coded in.
Have fun.
