Bash would be the default interactive shell on Linux these days, but as of late Ubuntu ( and maybe Debian? ), have switched to dash, because its lighter and more memory efficient.
fi is reversed if - this is a bourne-like shell convention. a case block for example ends with esac - the backwards spelling of case.
