Hi,
We've found Ubuntu server reasonably stable, and until recently
supported modern hardware significantly better than Debian - though the
Debian guys have done a sterling job catching up more recently.
The PoP is back up and running and we expect it to remain that way for
a long time to come.
The Sixxs PoP is a voluntary service run by the Sixxs crew, where
HEAnet provide a server, hosting and networking, and the tireless Sixxs
guys maintain the software and configuration on the server, running the
PoP for end-users.
So thanks to those on the HEAnet NOC and services teams who rebuilt the
server even after hours - despite it being a voluntary service - and
communicated with the Sixxs guys, and thanks also to the Sixxs guys who
rebuilt their software and systems on the server, bringing it back into
service. They demonstrate time and time again that just because a
service is free and gratis does not mean it can't be excellent!
Best regards,
