[ILUG] NFS for server

[ILUG] NFS for server

Hello All,

I run a webserver for my own email and some other stuff. For general
maintenance, backups and updates I've always used a combination SSH, FTP
and a web control panel.

At the moment im downloading some stuff off the server via a FTP as part
of a backup.

As ever theres no love lost between me and gFTP - weird behavior and the
occasional crash. Normally something like that is not so bad but I'm
backing up several years and Gigs worth of emails and I dont want ot be
wondering if its all in one piece.

Anyhow - I was wondering if NFS is a viable alternative. Has anyone done
this for a their webserver? Mostly I'm worried about the security aspect -
any tips?

For example theres a link showing you how to do it for Ubuntu but theres
no mention about security or password protection:

https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/serverguide/C/network-file-system.html

Regards,

Oliver.
