mdns is specified in /etc/nsswitch.conf:
hosts: files mdns_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns

it looks like ssh is getting the IPv6 address, but not the interface to
use. Trying "ping6" to a link-local address without specifying an
interface and I see the same "Invalid argument" message.
