I'm no linux expert, but I got a friend up and running with virtualbox and
windows so he could sync with his ipod. Folders can be shared with the main
OS. So you can make a windows folders just for those documents. I would
recommend using virtualbox from the Oracle site (it's free), since the
version in the repos tends to break with a kernel upgrade.
Also libreoffice has brought in support for works that wasn't allowed by sun
and better interoperability is in development.
