Novacut is a open source professional level video editing software that is
in development. The backend dmedia, which can intelligently import and
manage files is mostly done. The UI is next on the list and prototypes have
been made in the browsr
This is a full time undertaking and after a year of project development the
two main leads have reached out on kickstarter to fund the next stage of
development. With four days to go the project is tantalizingly close to
reaching its goal.
Those that know me from barcamps and LUGs may have heard my rants against
current video editing solutions and how they don't meet the creative need
for creating professional level projects. I believe that the main team
behind novacut have a good solution for the problem. They are focused on
indie and pro editors, and how their workflow, so everything will be done in
the UI. At the same time the traditional interface has been put aside.
Intelligent use of tagging to give one click import into premade media
management. Web based features to allow two or more people to edit in
different locations. And ultimately a platform for artists to share their
Funny video made by film-makers about the project.
