Internet Operations Engineer
Join a small team of talented Information Technology professionals who
manage the operation of the Ask.com's European web properties. We're the
people who make sure that www.ask.co.uk, one of the UK's most popular search
sites, works and works fast!
Summary
In this role you will have the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of
Ask.com Internet Operations. Building and maintaining Linux servers,
designing and improving network architectures, and creating clever
automation to simplify infrastructure tasks are just some examples of the
work you will be doing. You will also have to setup monitoring and fight
fires as they arise to ensure 24x7x365 operation. You will work with our
development and quality assurance teams to take their products live and
maintain them. You will possess at least two years of IT work experience or
a strong computer science academic background. Significant experience with
all of the following is required:
o PC hardware
o Linux
o TCP/IP
o HTTP
o Perl, Python, Shell, PHP or other scripting language
o Monitoring/graphing systems such as Nagios and Cacti
In depth experience with at least one of the following is also required:
o Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls
o Hardware TCP Load balancers / Layer-7 switches
o MySQL, Postgres or other SQL database platform
Most importantly you will have an intuitive understanding of technology
coupled with a self-starting attitude and a desire to learn, tinker, and
make things work better.
