Some more info.
The printer works when plugged into a Ubuntu laptop - so the hardware is
OK.
The computer it is attached to is Debian and was just updated - that
seems to be the issue. I can print as normal to a second laser printer
on this computer but the Brother printer doesn't work. I have tried
deleting and reinstalling with various drivers but no luck - I am
wondering if its a USB problem.
Kevin.

Kevin,
There's probably a "Test Print" option on the printer itself, so you
should try that. If it fails, you've a hardware or firmware problem.
I'd also check if any of the toner cases is damaged/leaking, and replace
it/them.
I would doubt if it's a LAN/driver problem, unless someone recently
changed drivers/settings.
