[ILUG] fn Key issue

A few ways to deal with wireless in Ubuntu:

Right click on the 'Network Manager' icon in the top bar (or whatever
they are calling it nowadays :) )
You can 'Enable wireless' from there.

The command line way:

sudo ifconfig wlan0 up
or
sudo ifconfig wlan0 down

(your device may not be called wlan0, to find out what it is called just
'ifconfig' in the terminal.

Good Luck!

Michael Jonker
