The problem was with the Ethernet port, they used the wrong type in the factory. The one specified had some magnetic components internal to the ethernet socket that reduced the complexity of the motherboard and helped achieve the low prices.

It's just a case of ensuring supply of the correct socket and resoldering, only a minor glitch.
