Hi All
Hope to see as many as possible of you next Friday. I've since been at GUaDEC in Trinity ( http://www.guadec.org/ ) and at ( http://www.linuxuserexpo.co.uk ) in the NEC in Birmingham -both VERY educational and valuable. Updates in Peter Clarkes' next Friday night for whoever is interested.
It's time to dig our heels in about e-voting -have a look at Jason Kitcat's site at http://www.free-project.org/ for details. FYI -he wrote a GNU Voting system and has first hand experience of the pitfalls. He is committed to help us in any way he can. All we need to do is formulate where we stand. Please pay that site a visit.
I think we should proceed on our campaign to halt the current Irish Evoting pilots. The two grounds are: (1) Loss of the right to spoil a vote whilest commenting on the ballot and (2) Loss of the right to observe a transparent count -BTW the people were not consulted on either of the above -which makes the change unconstitutional (IMHO).
The solution is a system which is Open Source -so that the right to spoil vote has been accomodated and the validity of the complience of the program with the statue book can be verified.
All thoughts welcome and will be acted upon. Catherine, time to escalated this via An Chomortas Glas ? See how you get on
Till Friday
All the best
Mel
