I know people who do things like cashing cheques, and then lodging the
cash to their account, withdrawing cash and making a cash lodgement(as
opposed to transfer/draft/etc) to get around similiar charges.

Personally that's a bit too much hassle, but if one was making a lot of
transactions... ...
