Lo all,
anyone else see the Open University program last night on BBC2 about
"computer security"..was on abit late..1.30AMish
They had one of IBM's "ethical hacker" d00dz, a couple of guys from CDC
too. And some spotty teens. Seemed as if it was a course class for some IT
course, thru OpUni.
"Hackers have many a work bag full of double edged knifes, including
scanners, tracers, trojan horses, and many others. These tools can be used
for both good and evil."
The guys from CDC were trying to convince people that BO/BO2K wasn't a
trojan, but actually an application that was written to show up bugs in MS
apps.
They did seem however, manage to make the destinction between the word
"hacker" and "cracker", which always makes me feel happy.
I think the best quote was from Head of Obscurity^D^D^D, sorry Security at
Microsoft.
"We want to work with hackers who find exploits in our applications. If
they find bugs we will fix them. We will do whats right for our
customers."
Of course when I saw that, I almost choked on my chips...
