Don't use Win98 telnet!  Or learn about its keymappings (if any).  I use
LANWorkplacePro or XWin32 and export xterm / gnome-terminals to the Win98
display.  In fact, at home, I export the gnome 'panel' to the Win client
and launch everything from there!
