Howdy Niall,
I have mine for the past few months, and haven't seen that happening. Are
the cells secondary or once only primary cells? Mybe try a different make
of battery.
You could use acetone alcohol, this works well. We had some things here
that had oxidised battery terminals, so we used acetone, elbow grease, and
a handfull of cotton buds.
