Lo,
Limerick's great fun. The area around UL is safe -- with an almost
entirely student population. I've been here for more years than I care to
remember and rarely saw any unwarranted violence. The city itself has an
easier going but ultimatly less interesting nightlife than other major
cities. You still have your choice of slapper bars, one and a half metal
pubs, and a few rugby bars. The required dress is farely casual, you wont
say get stopped going into pubs for not wearing your Sunday best like in
Dublin :) Ehm, the taxi's are about £5 in and out of the city (from the
college) and there's rarely any problem finding one. Buses are 75p, pints
are £2.35 (Guinness), except in Clohessy's or the South Court where they
think £2.50 is a much better idea.
I had great fun in Limerick going to UL but that was a little while
ago. Either way the point is you shouldn't let Limerick's reputation as a
violent city deter you. Almost all of the people flounting such heresy are
not from and never lived in the city.
Good luck with whatever you decide, and join the computer society when you
get there ...

Subject: [ILUG-Social] Please tell me about Limerick
Hi,
Please reply to me personally, as I am not subscribing to this list. I
am thinking about going to the University in Limerick and want to know a
little about the city. I have heard some not so pleasant things about
the town. Some say its not that bad, some suggests it actually worse. I
don't know what to think! Please give me an honest opinion about the
city. Thanks!
regards,
--david.
