[ILUG-Social] linus' new job

Smith, Graham - Computing Technician Graham.Smith at it-tallaght.ie
Wed Apr 3 12:32:53 IST 2002

I feel stupid for not spotting the date on that post hehe
(today being my first day back after the long weekend)

Yea i saw the advert for the amstrad phone/e-mail/game thingy,
looks like a nice idea for people who don't want a PC,
I wonder will it sell...

Sinclair Research is still in operation - they make some odd
but interesting stuff - a credit card sized disposable (and
very bright) torch, a very very tiny in-ear AM radio and
an electric motor power unit for a push-bike.

I dont think Clive Sinclair is involved anymore - not sure...
he probably retired after the C5 and Zike inventions.
I think he invented the first digital watch and pocket calculator
- stuff we take for granted now. Although i'm sure products like
the z80, z81, spectrum 48k / + / +2 will be more memorable to
people on ILUG....

Reminds me,
I thought I was dreaming when I saw the ad for this on the TV over the
weekend, but apparently Amstrad are selling a new 'phone on which you
can download and play Spectrum Games.

Seems you can also send SMSs and emails with it too (along with surfing
the net). At first I thought it was an elaborate (and expensive) April
Fools Joke...
