[ILUG-Social] Opt-in spam could cost charities billions

First of all, my humble thanks to all for not replying to the last few spams
that made their way to these lists. It's a positive pleasure to be able to
delete one mail and not have to ignore the same damn arguments again and
again.

But I digress. Have a look, if you will, at
http://www.understandingprivacy.org/content/newsroom/newsreleases/01_28_02.cfm
. Could opt-in actually be a bad thing in some circumstances? I'm not wild
about getting letters from a plethora of organisations when I sign up for or
give money to one charity, but I *do* see the point of allowing them to do it.
