[ILUG-Social] CRT pluses

On the other hand, a good quality crt has advantages over lcd

- display latency. LCD screens have a noticable latency in changing pixel
values. Someone told me a ballpark figure of 30 miliseconds. Because of
this LCD's arent much use for playing high fps (frame per second) games,
such as quake3, tribe, whatever. However high the frame rate your pc can
produce, your display will be chugging along at roughly 35 fps, nasty.
Obviously not a concern to business users, but as ppl keep mentioning the
brilliance of lcd's in this thread, i thought i'd point out why I didnt
buy one, and why many ppl on this list shouldnt.

- much finer resolution. lcd's have a fixed native resolution, which
is not going to be close to as high as a decent crt can support. They also
dont handle the non native resolutions as well as the native.

as to display flicker, lcds are better, but I run my 19 inch crt at
140hz because eye flicker drives me mad. At anything from 120 up I defy
anyone to spot flicker.
